The Rio Moda Hype is a contest that features new fashion designers at Rio de Janeiro. Fracture as Contamination Collection (Fratura como contaminação) was one the finalists, in 2005.1 edition.

My theme was madness. A kind of epidemic that contaminates and modifies the clothes and the body. Hospital´s asepsis and whiteness were some of the elements worked.

The text on the right defines the concept better.

Fracture as contamination Colletion
By Fabiano lemos, Conceptual Assistent and Doctoring in Philosophy

The fractured form: from one reality register to another, the simple and pure continuity is not possible anymore. Where we could hope for the straightness of our understanding and the drawings that it stands for, madness inoculated another way of hewing images out – not the denial-rate one but, more terribly, that of the contamination.

To open the doors of the Universal Asylum would not simply mean to return the reason back to the mad ones, but to put the very Reason under siege by these recently released magic eyes, that, unremittingly recreate the form of what they look at and, at the same time, of what is their deepest: the skin. And maybe only the mad ones are really able to see that from the costumes to the skin, the distance is the measure of a fiction – an almost nothing.

The well-meaning ones could not manage cares rigorously: as the mad is released, he cannot not to bring with him the sign of his inescapable singularity. What was first imposed him from outside, the sterile asepsis, the formal purity, the arrestment under a controllable identity, arrestment therefore of his most personal image, is now incorporated to a costume-skin to which is not a question to choose between being sane or delirious. From one status to another, an unperceivable limit, a contamination: the plain over the wrinkle, the straight over the sinuous, the cloth over the cloth. One without annulling the other: the skin over the skins.
